CHICAGO HOUSING AUTHORITY
Chicago Housing Authority – (Owners Representative, Construction Manager, Professional Services)—$300 million
- General renovation and redevelopment of Altgeld Gardens and the Phillip Murray Homes CHA development including building exteriors, building interiors, site utilities, site improvements, and HUD 504/ADA accessible units. Building renovation and redevelopment includes new mechanical and electrical system; building façade restoration including tuck pointing; new windows and exterior doors; site improvements include parking lots, exterior lighting, landscaping, recreation area, sidewalks; new roof; and a smart home program (program for providing computerized monitoring of utility systems and energy requirements for each unit). Newly rehab units includes new central air conditioning and heating system, new ranges and refrigerators, new range hoods, new solid wood interior doors, new kitchen cabinets and counter tops. Five new laundry facilities were constructed.
- The combined projects (Altgeld Gardens and Murray Homes) include roughly 225 buildings, 1998 dwelling units over 17 block groups within 190 acres. It is the most self-contained and comprehensive public housing development ever constructed in Chicago.
- Phillip Murray Phase II submitted by Walsh Construction as an entry in the Chicago Building Congress 2008 Merit Awards under the “Rehab Construction” category.
